Perceptions - the art of Jane Adriance and Joseph DeFay

"Perceptions"

new works by
Jane Adriance
and
Joseph DeFay

November 9 - December 3, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 11, 4-7 pm

Artists' Gallery is pleased to present "Perceptions," an exhibition featuring the watercolors of Jane Adriance and the photographs of Joseph DeFay. Both artists have unique perceptions of the world they see around them. They reflect a perspective that is not based on what we normally call "reality". This photographer and painter offer images that may be surprising and at the same time compliment each other with a beauty that offers new perspectives in opposing mediums.

Working with watercolors, Jane intends to go beyond what she perceives in her everyday life. A kind of poetic license to reflect a point of view that can be startling and contradictory and yet beautiful. Jane uses color as her primary focus which is embraced by dynamic compositions of light, line textures and space.

Joseph's photographs tend to pull out the simpler aspects of everyday life so they can be seen with a renewed beauty, and an exciting new perspective. "A completely open mind, favoring no particular philosophy, allows me to fully accept what each raw opportunity to create provides, and decide if it is to be refined and shared. Traditional artistic concerns prove an interesting challenge when capturing people, places, or objects in the moment, but are always held in high regard".

Momentum at Rest - the art of Richard Harrington Laura Rutherford Renner

"Momentum at Rest"

new works by
Richard Harrington
and
Laura Rutherford Renner

October 5 - November 5, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 7, 4-8 pm

Artists Laura Rutherford Renner and Richard Harrington are pleased to announce the opening of their joint show, "Momentum at Rest" on Thursday, October 5th, at Artists' Gallery, 18 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ. The exhibit, which runs through Sunday, November 5th, features watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oil paintings by the two artists. An Opening Reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, October 7th, from 4 to 8 pm.

Laura Rutherford Renner, who maintains her studio in Collingswood, NJ, often uses the sights from her hometown and Southern New Jersey as the starting point for her work.

Rutherford Renner finds that the light at different times of the year can make something that may appear as mundane an interesting subject for a painting.

The title of the exhibition, "Momentum at Rest", was initially proposed by Rutherford Renner after sketching her cat, Lulu, dozing in the sun in her studio. "Momentum at Rest is a celebration of reflective light on objects and figures in a defining moment. My inspiration for these painting is light on forms, especially reflected light within shadows. That is something that attracts me to paint a certain scene or subject" says Rutherford Renner." I also find the reflections of light on water to be especially intriguing, and I enjoy the challenge capturing that effect in my work. I always have a camera and a sketchbook with me, so I can do a sketch and take a photo whenever I'm inspired."

Richard Harrington, of Newtown, PA, finds his inspiration for Momentum at Rest in the mid-20th century chromed and finned marvels produced by Detriot automakers. "When Laura approached me with this title, I immediately thought of vehicles that were designed to look fast or powerful even while standing still" says Harrington." Some of the works in this exhibition of vehicles left sitting in fields I painted plein air, while others of lovingly preserved or restored vehicles were painted from photographs. I enjoy the beauty in their designs and character whether they are rusting and dented, or look as if they had just been sold off the showroom floor."

Points of View - the art of Carol Sanzalone and Michael Schweigart

"Points of View"

new works by
Carol Sanzalone
and
Michael Schweigart

September 7 - October 1, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 9, 4-7 pm
Closing Tea and Conversation: Sunday, October 1, 3-6 pm

Our September exhibit features work by Carol Sanzalone and Michael Schweigart. Painting images of the natural world with unique and personal "Points of View", both artists share a creative delight in capturing an image with glorious color and marvelous textures.

Working in watercolor and acrylic, Carol focuses on the graphic quality of the subject using transparent washes of color. The way that natural light and shadows enliven and enrich everyday images, and create wonderful shapes and textures, inspires her work. Carol's paintings have been exhibited widely in solo, group and invitational exhibits. She has taught art and worked in Graphic Design for many years. When she creates a work, or considers a subject, she is always drawing on that history.

Traveling near and far, Michael is inspired by things he encounters along the way. He works in acrylic and oil approaching subjects from his unique perspective. Schweigart combines technique and medium to craft paintings that depict cityscapes, seascapes and bucolic landscapes. His works display texture and atmosphere, with a presence of man and a sense of place. Michael has been exhibiting his work in galleries and museums throughout the northeast and beyond for over thirty years.

The edge of a grassy field, the transparent reflected colors of the season or a still life from nature, are images that Carol and Michael explore, each with a personal creative vision and unique approach to developing a point of view. This exhibit is not to be missed!

Images and Imaginings - the art of Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Alan J. Klawans

"Images and Imaginings"

Paintings by Claudia Fouse Fountaine
Digital art by Alan J. Klawans

August 10 - September 3, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday August 12, 3-6 pm

Claudia Fouse Fountaine is an award winning local artist. Along with a BFA and an MFA, she has experience as a museum docent, and an art teacher. She's shown her work in galleries in San Francisco, New York, Brooklyn and New Hope, before becoming a member of Artists' Gallery in Lambertville. This will be her second two person show there. Whereas previously her colorful acrylic paintings depicted mostly bucolic scenes flowers and farms, in her new work Claudia seems to be exploring more personal subjects, and painting with a bit more of an expressionistic touch.

Alan J. Klawans has enjoyed an accomplished career as a graphic designer and printmaker. He has always been interested in the structure of things. For example: buildings, ships, machinery, utility towers and industrial structures. In this exhibition he has observed the structure of flowers and plants. His previous work has been exhibited widely, including the Whitney Museum, New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia.

Journeys - recent works by Beatrice Bork and Joe Kazimierczyk

"Journeys"

recent works by
Beatrice Bork
and
Joe Kazimierczyk

July 6 - August 6, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday July 8, 5-8:30 pm
Coffee and Conversation: Sunday, August 6, 2-4 pm

Art can take you places. Stepping into an art galley is an adventure as you follow along on an artist's journey of personal exploration, visiting places you've never been, or seeing familiar subjects in new ways.

Fine artists Beatrice Bork and Joe Kazimierczyk invite you to join them on their journeys of discovery, as they explore the great outdoors from their own unique viewpoint and medium. Beatrice enjoys immersing herself in careful portrayal of animal and bird subjects through watercolor, while Joe explores the grandeur of landscape and sense of place through oils. All are invited to view the exhibit at Artists' Gallery.

While being in nature is the connecting motivation of both Beatrice Bork and Joe Kazimierczyk, each has a very different point of inspiration. Beatrice enjoys the aspect of discovery, and explores the intricacies of her subjects, concentrating on birds. Joe relishes the outdoors and is an avid hiker - inspired by the "bigger picture", he focuses the landscape as he explores the parks and forests of northern New Jersey. This exhibit encompasses not only tangible destinations and subject of inspirations, but also an expression of the artists' personal journeys. Both artists feel a connection to nature, where they are rejuvenated, re-centered and ultimately inspired.

"Jersey Shore"
recent works by
Bill Jersey
and
Maxine Shore

June 8 - July 2, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday June 10, 5-8 pm

Put the work of Bill Jersey and Maxine Shore in the same room and what do you get? Blazing color - superb compositions - and a delightful irrepressible experience of - you guessed it - "JERSEY SHORE" - it's their world as they see it.

For over 60 years, Bill Jersey has gained honors as a pre-eminent maker of television documentaries. His major awards include two Peabodys, two national Emmys, two academy award nominations and a gold medal for Lifetime achievement in the Arts from the national Arts club in New York city. Since moving to Lambertville his major focus has been on his oil paintings. Multiple awards have come to him from Phillips Mill, Artsbridge, New Hope Arts and other curated venues.

Oil painter Maxine Shore, whose work can be found in many personal and institutional collections, has exhibited her work throughout the United States. She strives to create work that is suffused with color and light in an effort to capture the memory of a special place in a particular time. Her goal is to encourage viewers to reevaluate how they perceive nature. This is summed up in the quote from Marcel Proust: "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in seeing with new eyes."

"Quiet Spaces" recent works by Gail Bracegirdle and Debbie Pisacreta

"Quiet Spaces"
recent works by
Gail Bracegirdle
and
Debbie Pisacreta

May 4 - June 4, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday May 13, 4-8 pm

Both Gail and Debbie's paintings evoke a quiet and calm feeling where the choice of subjects and the use of muted palettes contribute to the sense of contemplation and reflection that both artists feel when they paint.

Gail Bracegirdle's watercolors are filled with light and color. She prefers to work from life or from sketches made on location in order to observe the effects of direct and reflected light and shadow on her subject. Gail's goal in painting is "to capture the illusion of movement or sound, a quiet moment, a momentary pleasure, an intriguing juxtaposition of images, light and shadow."

Debbie Pisacreta also works directly from life. A plein-air landscape painter from Lambertville, her oil paintings depict the gentleness of the town, the river, and the surrounding farms. Debbie says "I paint on location as much as possible and often make multiple sketches and studies for my painting until I feel I have captured my emotional connection with the scene. My goal is to create a visual story that communicates the feeling of that place and time."

"Reflections" - new works by Alla Podolsky and Joseph Zogorski

"Reflections"
new works by
Alla Podolsky
and
Joseph Zogorski

April 6 - April 30, 2017

Opening Reception: Saturday April 8, 3-6 pm

Reflections

Reflections of the past and present, both emotional and literal, are the subject of the new works shown at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

Intimations of the past, of nature and human nature, beauty and transition, suffuse Joseph Zogorski's photography. Joseph grew up in a verdant, still largely rural area of Bucks County in the 1970s on land his grandfather, father and uncles cleared of virgin timber over a century ago. Hearing their stories, feeling their presence still, combined with deep appreciation for the special beauty of this region, are all manifest in Joseph's imagery.

Alla Podolsky's work is naturally reflective. "I paint memories and places, people and emotions. Contemplation and perception are essential to what I do and come organically from my background and the kind of art I have always admired and aspired to create: narrative, but not necessarily literal; a little bit mysterious and evocative. Both people and places in my work serve as mirrors for my own reflections and those of the viewer."
