Artists' Gallery invites you to A Walk with Nature: Light, Shadow and Color, a two-person exhibition featuring Nancy Lloyd and the gallery's newest member, Harvey Rogosin.

Although both artists find inspiration in the landscape, each interprets it in a distinctive way. Nancy's luminous woodland scenes capture the quiet drama of light filtering through the forest, while Harvey's richly layered pastel paintings reveal the color, texture, and atmosphere of the places he explores.

New Member: Denise Jill Marshall

Artists' Gallery is pleased to welcome Denise Jill Marshall as one of our newest artists. A landscape photographer for more than 50 years, Denise is guided by light, color, and the deep emotional resonance she finds in her subjects.

Her recent work takes an exciting new direction through the deconstruction and weaving of her own photographic images. Using a wide range of photographic papers, she creates layered compositions where light and texture interact in unexpected ways. This process of transformation—both personal and visual—allows new images to emerge from the original photograph, forming a powerful new whole.

Prajakta’s art explores the connection between nature and human emotions. Through observing movement and expression, she distills life’s complexities into simple forms, inviting viewers to connect with the natural world uniquely.

Artists’ Gallery would like to recognize Alan J. Klawans and Carol Sanzalone, two longtime (25 years and 20 years, respectively) and beloved members who are retiring from the gallery. We're grateful to them for their friendship and their contributions to the gallery over the years. Alan J. Klawans Farewell and Retrospective

Long-time member and friend Alan Klawans is retiring from Artists' Gallery. His last day with us will be Sunday, November 2, so that weekend will be your final chance to see his work at the gallery. We’ll miss Alan’s creativity, humor, and steady presence — it’s been a privilege to show alongside him all these years.

Fittingly, the same day marks the opening of a Retrospective of Alan’s work at The Plastic Club, 247 South Camac Street, Philadelphia, PA.  The exhibition runs November 2–26, 2025, with an opening reception on Sunday, November 2, from 2–5 pm.

We wish Alan all the best as he continues creating and sharing his art in new ways.

"A Green Jungle"

Alan Klawans draws from his archive of travel photographs, transforming the familiar into something new. While his past work has focused on everyday details like manhole covers and street signage, this exhibition highlights evocative photographic “portraits” of flowers —stylized through color and composition— offering a unique reflection on memory and the passage of time.

"Then And Once Again"

 

Andrew Werth marks time through a meditative process, meticulously filling his canvases with thousands of hand-painted curves. His abstract acrylic paintings, often created while focusing on breath or music, achieve remarkable luminosity and depth through subtle color transitions. Drawing on his background as a software developer, Werth's paintings include mathematical elements such as tessellations, tilings, mandalas, and other geometric configurations.

Laura Rutherford Renner and Alla Podolsky explore the subtleties of narrative, memory, and color in two distinct yet complementary voices.

Renner traces narrative through shadow, shape, and bold color. Her work has been described as "bold, brave, and a true voice." She writes: "Capturing contemporary life snapshots in two dimensions is an exercise in problem solving and creativity… The quiet engagement of brush to palette and brush to board provides daily calm and purpose."

"End of the Line"

Podolsky views painting as a way to preserve time - not linearly, but as vivid, emotional moments. A native of Kyiv, Ukraine, she draws on its rich narrative and iconographic traditions. "Colors, light, and compositions unique to those moments make their way into my paintings. They help me tell a story and keep time."

Footsteps brings together the art of two seasoned travelers: Joe Kazimierczyk, whose luminous landscape paintings are inspired by his hikes through local woodlands and mountain trails, and Ilya Raskin, whose global journeys are captured in vivid, emotionally resonant photographs. Though working in different mediums, both artists share a reverence for the natural world and a curiosity about the paths that lead us through it.

Kazimierczyk’s paintings reflect a deep, personal connection to nature, often portraying quiet moments in the forest or sweeping views from remote summits. His work invites viewers to pause and step into the serenity of the wild.

Raskin’s photography, by contrast, transports viewers across continents and cultures, offering intimate glimpses into elusive wildlife, remote communities, dramatic landscapes, and serendipitous human encounters.. Artists' Gallery is delighted to present "Celebrating Color & Light," an uplifting and visually rich exhibition featuring the work of Jane Adriance and Claudia Fouse Fountaine. On view from June 5 through July 6, 2025, the show invites visitors to experience the artists’ shared love of luminosity, expressive color, and the vibrant energy of the natural world.

Jane Adriance is a celebrated local artist from Princeton whose paintings have captivated viewers for years. Her recent retrospective at the Arts Council of Princeton highlighted her enduring commitment to "open up new perspectives," a goal reflected in her bold and dreamlike imagery. Adriance’s work, often open to interpretation, evokes the influence of Surrealism and possibly Georgia O’Keeffe, while standing uniquely her own. Her mediums include watercolor and oil, she has exhibited widely, won numerous awards, and studied at prestigious institutions including the Barnes Foundation and the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her paintings are startling, contradictory, and deeply beautiful—always infused with sumptuous color.

Claudia Fountaine is a Bucks County artist with art degrees from Carnegie Mellon and Pratt Institute. After working as an illustrator in New York, she moved to Pennsylvania to raise a family, also volunteering in the local school art program. Becoming a docent at the Princeton Art Museum deepened her art appreciation and education in art history. As the years passed, she spent more time painting, always intrigued by her surroundings and interpreting them through a lens of soft light and brilliant color. Whether the subject is a platter of oysters or the Grand Canyon, it’s the quality of light, and the strong color that tie them all together.

Beatrice Bork: "Within my genre of animal art, I strive to create watercolor paintings that go beyond representation—each work is both an intimate observation and an expressive interpretation, balancing realism with personal reflection, guided by a deep reverence for my subjects. Ultimately, I hope to offer a space for reflection—one that inspires a deeper connection and a renewed appreciation for the natural world, its many nuances, and the animals with whom we share it."

Michael Schweigart: "Through my paintings, I strive to capture the ephemeral beauty of fleeting moments and the profound stillness that can be found within them. My creative process is a journey of discovery, where intuition and spontaneity guide my hand, allowing me to navigate the uncharted territories of my imagination. Each piece I create is an invitation to the viewer to embark on their own personal journey, to engage with the work on a sensory and emotional level."

Artists’ Gallery is pleased to present "Imagine-Observe," an exhibition showcasing the abstract work of architect/painter Larry Mitnick and observational work of architect/painter Mark Oliver. By using inventive techniques and form, these artists continue to push the definition of contemporary art.

They are architects/painters with similar experiences and sensibilities. Both share their interest in architectural ideas and the geometry of spatial sequences. These contemporaries investigate spatial sequences through perspective, layered spaces, objects and their backgrounds. They explore the play of shadow and light, reflective, transparent and opaque surfaces.

Mitnick and Oliver rely on the viewer to complete the experience, to daydream and venture into a creative dialogue with their work. Please don’t miss "Imagine-Observe" an exciting pairing of creative architects/painters who have integrated their interests in both fields.

This November, Artists’ Gallery invites art enthusiasts to embark on a visual journey through ‘Chromatic Wanderings,’ an exhibition featuring the distinctive works of Carol Sanzalone and Andrew Werth. The show promises a unique exploration of nature’s patterns through two contrasting artistic perspectives. Both draw inspiration from the natural world, yet their approaches couldn’t be more different. Sanzalone's watercolor and acrylic paintings capture the interplay of light and shadow in the Delaware Valley, while Werth's intricate acrylic works delve into the realm of 'organized organic abstraction.'

Carol Sanzalone works in watercolor and acrylic to create paintings inspired by the colors and patterns of light she observes in nature. Graphic shapes from warm sunlight and cool shadows evoke images associated with seasons, times, and places. Her experience in printmaking with both silkscreen and lithography creatively informs and enriches her current work. "This exhibition is a celebration of color and form," says Sanzalone. "I hope visitors will see the familiar landscapes of our region in a new light."

Andrew Werth returns to Artists’ Gallery this year with acrylic paintings comprised of hundreds of hand-painted maze-like marks where subtle color gradations interact to produce a sense of depth and luminosity. A new series of six ‘Mind Wandering’ paintings span the chromatic spectrum and include symmetric forms with a perspectival tilt. This show also includes several new paintings from his ‘Elusive’ series, inspired by concepts from philosophy of mind. "My work invites viewers to both lose themselves in the details and to step back to take in the larger patterns of color," Werth adds.
