Painting the Light - the art of Jane Adriance and Debbie Pisacreta

Painting the Light
Jane Adriance and Debbie Pisacreta

Exhibit: November 10 - December 4, 2022
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 12, 4-7 pm

This exhibit explores the quality of light in both abstract and representational paintings. Jane continues her journey to create juxtapositions of different visual observations with light and color. "Light determines the color, composition, and the story being told. I have combined representative and abstract elements in the same context as well as pure abstractions in oils and mixed media. At times I think this becomes a sensual journey of mystery. Hopefully the observer will find a springboard to fantasy as well as aesthetic pleasure."

Primarily a plein air painter, Debbie is fascinated with capturing light, especially when it is most dramatic during early morning or evening hours. "Painting on location is an immersive experience for me. I remember the sounds, smells and feel of each location. My paintings represent my emotional response to the scenes. This show includes local scenes as well as images from New York state, Cape Cod Massachusetts, and Monhegan Island in Maine. I enjoy observing the differences in the colors and light in each of these locations, but my heart belongs to Monhegan as its natural beauty has been preserved."

Please visit the event website for more images and additional information.

And don't forget - along with our featured exhibit, all 16 of our professional artists continuously have their work on exhibit - there is new work here every month. We welcome your visits!

Emotional Odyssey: the art of Joseph DeFay and Carol Sanzalone

Emotional Odyssey
Joseph DeFay and Carol Sanzalone

Exhibit: October 6, 2022 - November 6, 2022
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 8, 2-5 pm

Photographing subjects up close, DeFay provides the ability to see details that one would not ordinarily notice. It is fascinating to explore and observe how individual elements interact and to present them on a grander scale than the ordinary obvious perspective. His intention is to compel each viewer to linger with the same vision that he enjoys behind the lens. DeFay enjoys the interplay between vibrant colors and that special quality of light, which invariably captures his attention. He spends a great deal of time with composition, searching from behind the lens for the precise arrangement of the subject. This work allows DeFay to preserve these moments, in order to share this valuable experience with others.

Sanzalone, inspired by the interaction of color and forms, creatively captures the graphic impact of natural and reflected light patterns, throughout the day and seasons. With texture, shapes and washes of color, a painting will often develop from an experimental, rather than a realistic approach to a subject - " The painting and I work together, as one thing leads to another! " - says Sanzalone. Artistically, her "Emotional Odyssey" has included work in a variety of media, painting in watercolor, acrylic, oil and printmaking in silkscreen and lithography, as well as professional experience in Graphic Design. When she considers a subject she is always drawing on that creative history.

Along the Road - the art of Bill Jersey and Michael Schweigart

Along the Road
Bill Jersey and Michael Schweigart

Exhibit: September 8 - October 2, 2022
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 10, 5-8 pm

Bill Jersey and Michael Schweigart bring together two different approaches to painting the landscape, and their impact together is dynamic. Bill’s bold impressionistic color harmonies and broad brushwork excite the senses, and his color and light patterns create complex compositions. While Michael’s palette is subtle with natural colors blending light and shadow that build texture and develop detail. “Along the Road” brings together the best of both styles with compelling scenes of their time and places.

Light and Shadow - the art of Gail Bracegirdle and Joe Kazimierczyk

Light and Shadow
Gail Bracegirdle and Joe Kazimierczyk

Exhibit: August 4 - September 4, 2022
Opening Reception: Saturday, August 6, 5-8 pm

Water-colorist Gail Bracegirdle and oil painter Joe Kazimierczyk are exhibiting together in "Light & Shadow", their second show together.

Gail enjoys exploring different ways of painting with watercolors by experimenting with textures and working on various watercolor papers. She always begins with a subject in mind and then 'gets creative'.

Joe's landscape paintings are a natural extension of his hiking and cycling trips as he explores and searches out new places for inspiration. His artwork is a distillation of his experiences of a place, and the resulting paintings are somewhere between reality, memory and imagination.

Moorings - the art of Heather Barros and Larry Mitnick

Moorings
Heather Barros and Larry Mitnick

Exhibit: May 5 - June 5

Opening Reception with Larry Mitnick: Saturday, May 7, 1-4 pm
Closing Reception with Heather Barros: Saturday, June 4, 1-4 pm

The exhibition "Moorings," featuring recent paintings by Heather Barros and Larry Mitnick, addresses connectedness on several levels. Both artists use lines to visually tie a set of abstract shapes to something else. These imagined shapes are buoyant; fast lines secure them. Barros' elements may be anchored to an unseen ground, while Mitnick's shapes are often bound to companion travelers. Movement is implied even if the motion is constrained, so the paintings suggest a tethered kinesis.
