Chromatic Wanderings - the art of Carol Sanzalone and Andrew Werth

Chromatic Wanderings
Carol Sanzalone and Andrew Werth

Exhibit: November 7 - December 1
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 9, 1-3 pm

This November, Artists’ Gallery invites art enthusiasts to embark on a visual journey through ‘Chromatic Wanderings,’ an exhibition featuring the distinctive works of Carol Sanzalone and Andrew Werth. The show promises a unique exploration of nature’s patterns through two contrasting artistic perspectives. Both draw inspiration from the natural world, yet their approaches couldn’t be more different. Sanzalone's watercolor and acrylic paintings capture the interplay of light and shadow in the Delaware Valley, while Werth's intricate acrylic works delve into the realm of 'organized organic abstraction.'

Carol Sanzalone works in watercolor and acrylic to create paintings inspired by the colors and patterns of light she observes in nature. Graphic shapes from warm sunlight and cool shadows evoke images associated with seasons, times, and places. Her experience in printmaking with both silkscreen and lithography creatively informs and enriches her current work. "This exhibition is a celebration of color and form," says Sanzalone. "I hope visitors will see the familiar landscapes of our region in a new light."

Andrew Werth returns to Artists’ Gallery this year with acrylic paintings comprised of hundreds of hand-painted maze-like marks where subtle color gradations interact to produce a sense of depth and luminosity. A new series of six ‘Mind Wandering’ paintings span the chromatic spectrum and include symmetric forms with a perspectival tilt. This show also includes several new paintings from his ‘Elusive’ series, inspired by concepts from philosophy of mind. "My work invites viewers to both lose themselves in the details and to step back to take in the larger patterns of color," Werth adds.

Please visit the event website for additional information.

And don't forget - along with our featured exhibit, all 16 of our professional artists continuously have their work on exhibit - there is new work here every month. We welcome your visits!

A Creative Journey - Gail Bracegirdle and Carol Sanzalone

A Creative Journey

A Creative Journey
Gail Bracegirdle and Carol Sanzalone

Exhibit: - June 8 to July 2, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 10, 4-7 pm

In memory of Gail Bracegirdle, a special featured gallery exhibit with Carol Sanzalone will be showcased for the month of June. Inspired by images in nature, and the exciting patterns of life, this unique exhibit highlights a variety of creative techniques by two talented watercolor artists.

Gail Bracegirdle’s paintings express the “environmentally sensitive nature of the medium,” as she presented images with color and texture in watercolor. The variations she created, allow for the capture of the visual characteristics of each image, and share her interest in the subject.

Carol Sanzalone will be exhibiting her watercolor and acrylic works. Her paintings visually express the light, shadow and color patterns that enrich images, both realistically and abstractly, to express her impression of a subject. She is always drawing on those experiences on her Creative Journey.

Please visit the event website for additional information.

And don't forget - along with our featured exhibit, all 16 of our professional artists continuously have their work on exhibit - there is new work here every month. We welcome your visits!

Emotional Odyssey: the art of Joseph DeFay and Carol Sanzalone

Emotional Odyssey
Joseph DeFay and Carol Sanzalone

Exhibit: October 6, 2022 - November 6, 2022
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 8, 2-5 pm

Photographing subjects up close, DeFay provides the ability to see details that one would not ordinarily notice. It is fascinating to explore and observe how individual elements interact and to present them on a grander scale than the ordinary obvious perspective. His intention is to compel each viewer to linger with the same vision that he enjoys behind the lens. DeFay enjoys the interplay between vibrant colors and that special quality of light, which invariably captures his attention. He spends a great deal of time with composition, searching from behind the lens for the precise arrangement of the subject. This work allows DeFay to preserve these moments, in order to share this valuable experience with others.

Sanzalone, inspired by the interaction of color and forms, creatively captures the graphic impact of natural and reflected light patterns, throughout the day and seasons. With texture, shapes and washes of color, a painting will often develop from an experimental, rather than a realistic approach to a subject - " The painting and I work together, as one thing leads to another! " - says Sanzalone. Artistically, her "Emotional Odyssey" has included work in a variety of media, painting in watercolor, acrylic, oil and printmaking in silkscreen and lithography, as well as professional experience in Graphic Design. When she considers a subject she is always drawing on that creative history.

Moments in Life - the art of Carol Sanzalone and Laura Rutherford Renner

Artist's Gallery is open with our regular hours, and we've resumed our schedule of shows featuring 2 artists each month.  Please join us this month for "Moments in Life", featuring the art of Carol Sanzalone and Laura Rutherford Renner:

Special people and places that inspire the paintings of Laura Rutherford Renner and Carol McClure Sanzalone, will be showcased as the featured artists at Artists' Gallery for the month of July. For the reopening celebration this month, we encourage you to join us, wearing masks and exercising social distancing, as you enjoy the glorious paintings of our sixteen gallery artists.

Laura Rutherford Renner is an artist whose paintings on wood depict contemporary life in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. "Capturing a snapshot of living forms in two dimensions on a slab of smoothly prepared wood is a contemplative exercise and a source of calm", says Renner. "I enjoy mixing pure colors, keeping my palette simple to create authenticity of what is observed, not assumed."

Carol McClure Sanzalone is fascinated by the graphic qualities of shadow and light. "Working in watercolor and acrylic, I am able to creatively express, with transparent washes of color, the images that inspire my work - as uniquely wonderful as a pile of leaves in the morning light, or the shapes and textures that enliven the countryside."

Please note that there is no opening reception for this exhibit, due to social distancing recommendations. The gallery will be open our regular hours and we hope that you can visit us!

Visit the event website for more information

New Works by
Gail Bracegirdle
and
Carol Sanzalone

October 10 - November 3
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 12, 4-7 pm

Paintings by member artists Gail Bracegirdle and Carol Sanzalone, will be featured at Artists' Gallery from October 10th to November 3rd. Their paintings express their creative delight in the glorious colors and textures of the images that inspire their work. The "Visual Harmony"" of their paintings is the focus of this featured exhibit.

Carol Sanzalone will showcase paintings done in watercolor and acrylic on paper. Paintings that express the graphic beauty of the seasons created with transparent washes of color to convey her visual impression of nature in and around the Delaware Valley. Experience in graphic design, work in oils and printmaking in silkscreen, as well as teaching art for many years, Carol is always drawing on that creative history in her paintings on exhibit.

Gail Bracegirdle enjoys exploring different ways of painting with watercolors on various surfaces.  Most of the works on display in this exhibit focus on the flowing affects that come about when using watercolor paper with a gessoed surface.  The subjects range from florals & still life images to views on location.  Since 1993, Gail has also been teaching watercolor painting and finds it to be a wonderfully enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Joy of Nature - the art of Beatrice Bork and Carol Sanzalone

"Joy of Nature"

new works by
Beatrice Bork
and
Carol Sanzalone

  June 7 - July 1, 2018
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 9, 5-8:30 pm

Acclaimed fine artists Beatrice Bork and Carol Sanzalone will exhibit paintings expressing their personal visions of the splendor of nature in the featured artists exhibit at Artists' Gallery. Their paintings, celebrating the "Joy of Nature," combine images of Bork's admiration of animals and Sanzalone's sense of place through color and texture and will be on exhibit from June 7 to July 1.

"My art is a reflection of personal experiences through a lifetime of observation and discovery, resources gifted to me by my time in nature," says Bork.

Her watercolor paintings display sensitivity to detail and composition that are elevated by emotional and personal connectivity with her subjects.

"Being in nature, observing an animal or bird I've never seen before, or simply watching a bumblebee hover from flower to flower - each fills my soul uniquely. It is all a never-ending source of inspiration," says Bork. Over her career as a professional fine artist, she has amassed a list of honors in the genre of animal art. Her work has been displayed in notable exhibitions and museums across the U.S. and abroad-most recently with the prestigious Society of Animal Artists in the United Kingdom, and on tour with the Artists for Conservation to Lanwan Art Museum, Lanwan Eco Park, in Qingdao, China. In addition, Bork's paintings have been acquired by collectors from around the world.

The shapes and patterns of color that happen throughout the day and seasons fascinate Sanzalone and inspire her creativity.

"I love the graphic qualities of shadows and highlights and their impact on the images in nature that inspire my work." Sanzalone says. "It is so rewarding to capture the changing beauty of nature throughout the day and seasons in my paintings."

Previous work in oil and silkscreen printing led Sanzalone to her adventure with water media using transparent washes of color to create patterns and texture in both watercolor and acrylic on paper and canvas. Sanzalone has exhibited her work throughout the Northeast in many juried and solo exhibits and is included in private and corporate collections.

Points of View - the art of Carol Sanzalone and Michael Schweigart

"Points of View"

new works by
Carol Sanzalone
and
Michael Schweigart

September 7 - October 1, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 9, 4-7 pm
Closing Tea and Conversation: Sunday, October 1, 3-6 pm

Our September exhibit features work by Carol Sanzalone and Michael Schweigart. Painting images of the natural world with unique and personal "Points of View", both artists share a creative delight in capturing an image with glorious color and marvelous textures.

Working in watercolor and acrylic, Carol focuses on the graphic quality of the subject using transparent washes of color. The way that natural light and shadows enliven and enrich everyday images, and create wonderful shapes and textures, inspires her work. Carol's paintings have been exhibited widely in solo, group and invitational exhibits. She has taught art and worked in Graphic Design for many years. When she creates a work, or considers a subject, she is always drawing on that history.

Traveling near and far, Michael is inspired by things he encounters along the way. He works in acrylic and oil approaching subjects from his unique perspective. Schweigart combines technique and medium to craft paintings that depict cityscapes, seascapes and bucolic landscapes. His works display texture and atmosphere, with a presence of man and a sense of place. Michael has been exhibiting his work in galleries and museums throughout the northeast and beyond for over thirty years.

The edge of a grassy field, the transparent reflected colors of the season or a still life from nature, are images that Carol and Michael explore, each with a personal creative vision and unique approach to developing a point of view. This exhibit is not to be missed!

Joe Kazimierczyk works with oils in a style of traditional realism. Joe's painting is a natural extension of his exploration of the countryside and nature's beauty. In this show, he ventures beyond his usual haunts as he paints scenes from hiking trips ranging from the Delaware Water Gap to the Catskills to the Adirondack Mountains.

Carol Sanzalone is currently painting in watercolor and acrylic. Water media provides her the ability to enliven a subject with washes of transparent color, much like natural light throughout the day and seasons. Interested in the graphic quality of shadows and highlights, her current work involves a more creative approach to subjects throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond.
