Renner traces narrative through shadow, shape, and bold color. Her work has been described as "bold, brave, and a true voice." She writes: "Capturing contemporary life snapshots in two dimensions is an exercise in problem solving and creativity… The quiet engagement of brush to palette and brush to board provides daily calm and purpose."

Podolsky views painting as a way to preserve time - not linearly, but as vivid, emotional moments. A native of Kyiv, Ukraine, she draws on its rich narrative and iconographic traditions. "Colors, light, and compositions unique to those moments make their way into my paintings. They help me tell a story and keep time."

Announcing "Not to Be Forgotten," a new exhibit of paintings by Laura Rutherford Renner and Alla Podolsky.

Laura Rutherford Renner, from Collingswood, NJ, enjoys painting figures engaged in the experience of their environments. Her work has been recently described as "Bold, brave, and a true voice." Renner states: "Capturing contemporary life snapshots in two dimensions is an exercise in problem solving and creativity. I enjoy mixing pure colors, keeping my palette simple to create authentic observation. The quiet engagement of brush to palette and brush to board provides daily calm and purpose". Laura, an occupational therapist for the past 27 years, has recently retired from this important work. She lives with her husband, their child, and their snarky, beloved cat, Lulu.

"As a figurative painter, I am, essentially, a memory keeper" says Philadelphia artist Alla Podolsky. "I paint people, places, and events that are ‘etched in ember’ of my perception. People I loved and lost, experiences that stayed with me, moments that I want to revisit again and again—my work is a way of keeping them all. Color, light, composition are my means of staying connected. It’s both intensely personal to me and largely universal." A native of Kiyv, Ukraine, Alla Podolsky traces her love of psychological painting to that ancient city’s iconography and rich narrative traditions. Her work is a combination of her European sensibilities and her American experiences.

Paintings by artists Richard Harrington and Alla Podolsky featuring work in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. "Looking Forward" reflects the feeling of optimism both artists convey in their works as we move into a new year and closer to Spring.

A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Alla Podolsky creates work that can seem dreamlike. "If I were to distill what I do as an artist, I would say I paint experiences. We have collectively gone through a lot this past year, and I feel the need to impart past experiences of shared warmth, of joyful moments that ground us in difficult times. I like to think of my work as hopeful. Bright settings, vibrant colors, warm undertones. It’s my way of trying to lift some of the burden for my audience." She traces her love of psychological and narrative painting to the Byzantine-style iconography that is so prominent in that city.

Richard Harrington, from Newtown PA, finds inspiration for his work in the mid-20th Century finned and chromed creations from American auto makers. "I have always been fascinated by vehicles" he said. "I enjoy taking back roads and side streets, hoping to find cars, trucks, and different vehicles that have been left idle and shows the effect of the elements and time upon them. These are the starting points for my paintings. The works I created for this show represent the change of seasons, something I am always looking forward to. Each one brings it’s own unique color and light, and inspires me to create new work."

The spaces, memories, and people that move and transform us are the focus of the work by Annelies vanDommelen and Alla Podolsky at Artists' Gallery this month.

Annelies van Dommelen's training is formal, obtained from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, amongst other schools, workshops and residencies. Her vision, however, departs from a strict reality.

Annelies's work encompasses more than one medium. It is both abstract and figurative. "I am deeply inspired by natures forms and colors but I am not one who will reproduce it, I respond to it and by memory or osmosis or invention animals, insects, human figures or blooms of my design will occupy the work which then creates a sort of story line for both the viewer and myself to follow."

Alla Podolsky's work is all about life as we see it, as we internalize it, as we remember it. "I paint people, places, events, objects, emotions. All living, in constant motion, even when being still. The transformation happens when we observe, when we interpret, when we remember, and color those experiences with our own perceptions. Things change so constantly, even the ways we remember them. Life is never still, and my aim is to transfer the moments of unstillness with as much exuberance as I see around me."

Both artists are excited to have their works exhibited side-by-side. They share aesthetic sensibilities and the love of the painting mediums. Even though their approaches differ, there are connections and parallels that make for the dynamic and interesting visual dialog.

The narrative of our past and present, as we see it and interpret it, is the subject of the new works shown at Artists' Gallery in "Life as We See It".

Gail Bracegirdle, a graduate of Moore College of Art & Design, has focused on watercolors for over 25 years. "I feel that being an artist means that my job is to record what I see around me. The subjects evolve with the influence of light, weather, seasons and locations. Looking around my studio as I'm working is like reading my diary."

Alla Podolsky's work lends itself to interpretive narrative. "I paint events, as I experienced them, as I remember them, as I process them. Sometimes it's a direct interpretation and other times it's distorted and impacted by my feelings and memories. As artists, we inevitably change things just by observing and translating them into our work. This is what art is to me: translation. Of experiences, moments, emotions. It's life as we see it, inherently different from anyone else's perspective."

Born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Alla Podolsky traces her love of psychological painting to the Byzantine-style iconography of that city. She is a graduate of Moore College of Art and Design, and holds a master's degree in painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Reflections of the past and present, both emotional and literal, are the subject of the new works shown at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

Intimations of the past, of nature and human nature, beauty and transition, suffuse Joseph Zogorski's photography. Joseph grew up in a verdant, still largely rural area of Bucks County in the 1970s on land his grandfather, father and uncles cleared of virgin timber over a century ago. Hearing their stories, feeling their presence still, combined with deep appreciation for the special beauty of this region, are all manifest in Joseph's imagery.

Alla Podolsky's work is naturally reflective. "I paint memories and places, people and emotions. Contemplation and perception are essential to what I do and come organically from my background and the kind of art I have always admired and aspired to create: narrative, but not necessarily literal; a little bit mysterious and evocative. Both people and places in my work serve as mirrors for my own reflections and those of the viewer."

The spaces and people that enable us to grow and thrive, the settings that are beset by transformation or neglect, are the focus of the work by Alla Podolsky and Laura Rutherford Renner at Artists Gallery in Lambertville, NJ, from October 6th to November 6th, 2016, with an opening reception on Saturday, October 8, from 4 to 7pm, and the closing on Sunday November 6th from 3 to 6pm.

Alla Podolsky's work is all about the memories. "I paint memories of places, events, faces, emotions. Fleeting things. Things that change constantly, even in the ways we remember them. It's a rush to preserve them, to keep them as experienced. Which is as nearly impossible as it is tempting. Memories tend to change on us, the further we get removed from them, so my paintings are imprecise. They are all about that change, and a way of holding on."

Born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Alla Podolsky traces her love of psychological painting to the Byzantine-style iconography of that city. After immigrating to the United States in 1990, she continued her art education at Moore College of Art and Design (1995), and later received Master's Degree in painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1999). She continues to paint and develop her voice as an artist.

Laura Rutherford Renner is an artist whose paintings on wood depict contemporary life in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Her work has been included in various juried exhibitions and shows, recently as a juried member of Artists Gallery in Lambertville, NJ, and at the iconic Philadelphia Sketch Club. In addition to her painting career, Laura is a practicing Occupational Therapist and the published author of several OT biographical articles. She lives in Collingswood, NJ. Laura has previously exhibited in Artists House Gallery in Philadelphia for nearly 10 years.

While Podolsky is a long time member of the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, Renner is in her first year of this partnership, and this is an exciting opportunity for both artists to have their works exhibited side-by-side. They share aesthetic sensibilities and the love of the genre painting. Even though their approaches differ, there are connections and parallels that make for the dynamic and interesting visual dialog.

Together, they have attracted art collectors from the region who value their depiction of feeling for place and the inherent interactions that happen there. This intriguing and powerful exhibit will please art lovers throughout the region.

Artists Richard Harrington and Alla Podolsky and are pleased to announce the opening of their joint show, "Cafes and Cadillacs", on Thursday, August 6th, at the Artists' Gallery, 18 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ. The exhibit, which runs through September 6th, features watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings by the two artists. A reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, August 8th, from 4 to 8 pm.

"Cafes and Cadillacs" refers to the subject matter that Podolsky and Harrington feature in their respective works.

A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Alla Podolsky creates work that can seem dreamlike. "I trace my love of psychological and narrative painting to the Byzantine-style iconography that is so prominent in that city." She remarked on the fact that living in a different country is part of the reason she keeps reaching for connections and depicting a sense of belonging in her work. "Cafes, bookstores, cobblestone streets, nooks, staircases to somewhere interesting. Safe spaces. It's what I paint." Said Ms Podolsky. "Safe not because they don't push my boundaries, but because these are places that make me happy, make me excited, make me feel alternately at home or on an adventure. I am safe to explore there, and, in return, I keep them safe in my memory. So I can revisit, reinterpret, reexamine. Reconnect. Ultimately, finding connections and sharing their warmth is why I paint."

When and where was it manufactured? What were the individuals like on the assembly line that put the vehicle together? Podolsky and Harrington have both been long time members of the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, and they have had a lot of opportunities to see each other's work hanging side by side. "I was looking at our work together" said Harrington." As different as our work is, I realized that our subjects actually parallel one another, in that my work reflects American culture, while Alla's work communicates a very European sensibility."

"To produce any kind of work, an artist must look inside first. Artists are the ultimate observers, examiners, and interpreters of the internal for the outside world." —Alla Podolsky

Photographer James Pryor and painter Alla Podolsky, both of the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ, share their new work in "Introspection," a joint show running Thursday, May 8 through Sunday, June 1.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, May 10, from 5 pm to 9 pm. The artists will also host a closing reception from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 1. All are welcome!

"I paint moments, slices of time," says Alla Podolsky, "either taken directly from events or supplied by recollection and imagination. Often those intermingle, creating a different kind of reality. They are intensely personal, and yet, I believe, universal. We all carry whole worlds inside ourselves, and it's our job as artist to communicate them, to give them space, interpretation, and life on the outside. We are in a rather unique position of looking inward by expressing outward. Our introspections are public." Alla Podolsky traces her love of psychological painting to the ancient Byzantine icons she saw as a child in Kiev, Ukraine, the city where she was born and raised. She considers herself a "human" painter, the one who paints people, experiences that are inextricably theirs, bearing the stamps of their humanity. Her work deals with the traces people leave on their surroundings and times, and with the traces the surroundings and time leave on the people.

"My style and images combine into subtle emotions that engage the viewer. I have always believed that one should put to print what stimulates," states James Pryor. Combining his custom adapted flex body camera along with his unique printing methods, he has established a creative dreamlike "other-world" through select focus with textural dimension. "My images play both in emotion and technique, while portraying private thoughts as public displays. I find myself emotionally divided as to exhibit my impressions while guarding my intention. If my images are to be taken literally, then let the viewer come to respect my work as simply honest. Whether my subjects are human figures, places or themes, all interpretations remain emotionally confined within a single dimensional print; this art is my passion." Having studied psychology, philosophy and a little theology, James' visual environment is one of awakening. His images explore reactions to strength, weakness, assertion, submission and the beauty that surrounds.

"Artists are storytellers. And colors are our words." Those are the words of painter Alla Podolsky. She and Charlie Katzenbach have more than a few stories to share. Many will be on display in "True Colors," Katzenbach's and Podolsky's joint show running Thursday, July 4, through Sunday, August 4.

"Color is a universal thing," says Podolsky. "At the same time, it's incredibly personal. We have such visceral reactions to colors. We love some, we hate others. To an artist, color is a language. It's how we communicate. It's how we compose. It's how we translate. It's what connects all artists, no matter what the medium, or style, or form."

Katzenbach seems to chase the rainbow for this show. She paints boldly with the primary colors on glass planes in various geometric designs often reminiscent of Amish quilts. "I've been painting the spectrum for some time," Katzenbach says. "I try to capture the brilliant colors that I see as the crystals in my studio window break the light into its components. There is an exuberant joy in the cascade of colors that make up the rainbow. It is also a cultural and political symbol celebrating unity despite diversity for both the civil right and GLBT movement. As a person affected by both this means much to me."

The Trevor Project to Benefit
Katzenbach and Podolsky will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of their work to The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, July 6, from 5 to 9 pm. The artists will also host a closing reception from 4 to 6 pm on August 4. All are welcome!

Materese Roche presents a series of expansive sky paintings which are inspired by the compositions and classical techniques of the past. Alla Podolsky's psychological and narrative paintings, in contrast, show people in their environments, often in a city or town setting. Together, they join forces to present "Inside Out - Reflections of Human Experience in the Environment".

In Views From the Other Side, Podolsky and Treichler examine how things can appear so different when seen through new a perspective, whether it's a different viewpoint, angle, reflection, or dimension. The exhibit provides an opportunity for those who see it to experience what happens visually and emotionally when one breaks through the other side.

Podolsky, a painter who favors psychological and narrative themes, credits her inclinations to a childhood spent in Kiev, Ukraine, surrounded by ancient Byzantine iconography. "I consider myself a 'human painter,'" she says. "By that I mean that I paint people in the environments that are inextricably theirs and that bear the stamp of their humanity."

Treichler works in color and black and white photography, and enjoys creating images that stay with the viewer long after they have been seen. "I want people to look at objects and scenes and consider them in a way they had not thought about before," he says.

Our current show "Interactions", featuring artwork by Carol Sanzalone and Alla Podolsky, runs until Sunday, August 1st.  If you haven't seen the show yet, or if you're planning to be in town for the Friday night fireworks, you have another chance to see the show and meet the artists - Please join us for a small reception this Friday evening, July 23, from 6pm to 9pm.  And then go see the fireworks!
