Artists' Gallery is pleased to present "Quietude", an exhibit of landscape paintings by Joe Kazimierczyk and photographs by Joseph Zogorski.

Quietude is defined as the state of being calm; peacefulness; stillness; tranquility. The artwork of Kazimierczyk and Zogorski embodies this feeling as each artist finds his inspiration in the quiet and serenity of the world around us - it's there if you look for it!

Joe Kazimierczyk's oil paintings are inspired by the scenes he encounters while exploring the mountains and forests of northern New Jersey. An avid hiker, his work in this show focuses on the trails, rivers and streams he finds in parks ranging from the Sourland Mountains to the Delaware Water Gap, and points in between.

For Joseph Zogorski, pockets of remaining rural countryside in his native Bucks County and contiguous regions of New Jersey often impart a sense of reflection and serenity. The lives of his ancestors- who settled here in the early 1900s- and their stories of living in a community closely tied to the land, plus imaginings of the native people who lived here previously, often help to inform his image making.

Artists Richard Harrington and Joseph Zogorski are pleased to announce the opening of their joint show, "Afternoon, After Dark", on Thursday, July 5th, at Artists' Gallery, 18 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ.

The exhibit, which runs through Sunday, August 5th, features watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paintings by Harrington, and both color and black and white archival pigment prints representing Zogorski's photography.

Richard Harrington, of Newtown, PA, finds his inspiration for his work in the cars parked on streets in his neighborhood.

The title of the exhibition, "Afternoon, After Dark", was initially proposed by Harrington. "During the winter months I started taking photos of cars parked under street lamps in my neighborhood" said Harrington. "I always loved the nighttime paintings of Edward Hopper and Charles Burchfield, and the starkness of the light cast by street lamps inspired me to create my own night scenes. I have always admired the photos that Joe creates using the late day sun and the sky after sunset, and I think our work fits together well for this exhibition".

An Associate Professor of Illustration at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Harrington has worked as an illustrator for more than 30 years. His training and practice are evident in the work he creates. "I always enjoyed painting images of vehicles. I try to include them in my work whenever I can; I love the reflection of light off the surfaces of them, especially in the afternoon and early evening. Vintage stainless steel diners are another favorite subject of mine, and I was able to include an image of one after sunset in this exhibition as well."

Joseph Zogorski grew up in Newtown Township, PA, on land his ancestors settled in the early 1900s. A graduate of Temple University, Maine Media Workshops and an award-winning photographer, Joseph's photographs of performance artists have been used on numerous websites and on IMDb, and his various subject matter prints are in several private collections. 


While growing up on the remnants of his grandfather's farm and in exploring the surrounding countryside, Joseph developed an early and enduring love for this special place and region. Remnants of the past, memories and the land provide rich inspiration for Joseph's photography, often reflecting his sense of the fleeting and the eternal. 

Combining chiefly traditional black and white photography with years of modern printmaking experience, Joseph has produced a portfolio of carefully crafted prints often depicting the ephemeral beauty and mystery he continues to find in our special landscape. "I've been struck at the consistency of comments about my work being perceived as "peaceful" or "serene". This has never been a conscious goal, but I'm pleased that my photography seems to have this effect."

Reflections of the past and present, both emotional and literal, are the subject of the new works shown at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

Intimations of the past, of nature and human nature, beauty and transition, suffuse Joseph Zogorski's photography. Joseph grew up in a verdant, still largely rural area of Bucks County in the 1970s on land his grandfather, father and uncles cleared of virgin timber over a century ago. Hearing their stories, feeling their presence still, combined with deep appreciation for the special beauty of this region, are all manifest in Joseph's imagery.

Alla Podolsky's work is naturally reflective. "I paint memories and places, people and emotions. Contemplation and perception are essential to what I do and come organically from my background and the kind of art I have always admired and aspired to create: narrative, but not necessarily literal; a little bit mysterious and evocative. Both people and places in my work serve as mirrors for my own reflections and those of the viewer."

Watercolorist Alex McKibbin and photographer Joseph Zogorski team up for The Fleeting and the Eternal, an exhibition of watercolor paintings and toned photographic prints, running May 5th through June 5th at Artists' Gallery, in Lambertville, NJ. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 7th, from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Born in Philadelphia from a family of modest means, Alex McKibbin fell in love with art as a child and never looked back. McKibbin generally paints large-scale watercolors in a loose and expressive style, while Zogorski utilizes film and prints in shades of grey. However, both artists are united in their strong feelings for subjects which embody elements of "the fleeting and the eternal". This is particularly evident in McKibbin's powerful, expressive color landscapes of locations from his past, as well as in black and white watercolors of bygone Philadelphia rail yards, painted as a teen.

Zogorski's often ephemeral and weather-related scenes - many presenting themselves during the years in which several family members and friends passed away - reflect deep and abiding feelings for those who came before and for the enduring mystery and beauty of this special place. Often of particular focus for Zogorski are the remaining undeveloped tracts and remnants of the once largely-rural area where he grew up, as did his father and where his paternal grandparents settled after emigrating from Europe over a century ago.

Painting seriously since 1957, Alex McKibbin has exhibited in over 200 exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally, including two extensive museum exhibitions, along with over 80 national and regional juried exhibitions. His works can be found in 32 public collections and over 60 corporate collections. Additionally, the work has been reproduced in 40 books and magazines, as well as CD covers. Alex taught Art History, painting and drawing at the collegiate level for 3 decades both here in the United States, as well as in Greece and Mexico, and Alex's bio appears in Marquis' Who's Who in the World. He presently has established a studio in Bensalem, Pa., and Alex's work has been handled by over twenty galleries throughout his career.

Joseph Zogorski is a graduate of Temple University and Maine Media Workshops. A lifelong Bucks County, PA, resident, Joseph has been seriously involved with photography for over a decade, including photographing and writing about musicians and arts-related topics for The Bucks County Herald. His photograph of World War II-era veterans at the Michener Museum's Tuskegee Airmen Presentation was awarded first place at Canal Frame Crafts', Vision of Hope juried exhibition. Joseph's photographs of musicians, dancers and actors are in use on numerous websites and on IMDb, and his prints are in several private collections.
