Celebrating Color & Light - the art of Jane Adriance and Claudia Fouse Fountaine

Celebrating Color & Light
Jane Adriance and Claudia Fouse Fountaine

June 5 - July 6, 2025
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 7, 4-6 pm

Artists' Gallery is delighted to present "Celebrating Color & Light," an uplifting and visually rich exhibition featuring the work of Jane Adriance and Claudia Fouse Fountaine. On view from June 5 through July 6, 2025, the show invites visitors to experience the artists’ shared love of luminosity, expressive color, and the vibrant energy of the natural world.

Jane Adriance is a celebrated local artist from Princeton whose paintings have captivated viewers for years. Her recent retrospective at the Arts Council of Princeton highlighted her enduring commitment to "open up new perspectives," a goal reflected in her bold and dreamlike imagery. Adriance’s work, often open to interpretation, evokes the influence of Surrealism and possibly Georgia O’Keeffe, while standing uniquely her own. Her mediums include watercolor and oil, she has exhibited widely, won numerous awards, and studied at prestigious institutions including the Barnes Foundation and the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her paintings are startling, contradictory, and deeply beautiful—always infused with sumptuous color.

Claudia Fountaine is a Bucks County artist with art degrees from Carnegie Mellon and Pratt Institute. After working as an illustrator in New York, she moved to Pennsylvania to raise a family, also volunteering in the local school art program. Becoming a docent at the Princeton Art Museum deepened her art appreciation and education in art history. As the years passed, she spent more time painting, always intrigued by her surroundings and interpreting them through a lens of soft light and brilliant color. Whether the subject is a platter of oysters or the Grand Canyon, it’s the quality of light, and the strong color that tie them all together.

Please visit the event website for additional information.

And don't forget - along with our featured exhibit, all 16 of our professional artists continuously have their work on exhibit - there is new work here every month. We welcome your visits!

Surroundings - the art of Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Bill Jersey

Surroundings
Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Bill Jersey
August 8 - September 1, 2024
Opening Reception: Saturday, August 10, 5-7 pm

This month, Artists' Gallery presents "Surroundings," featuring Bill Jersey and Claudia Fouse Fountaine. Their last exhibit together highlighted travels around the world and views of different countries; colorful as well as exotic. "Surroundings" brings the focus closer to home, to what we see around us every day. It turns out it can be as inspirational as anything else if we take the time to look carefully.

At the age of 97, Bill Jersey still explores life with what he calls a fresh eye. "If you think you've seen this before," he says, "you're not paying attention." A Country Road invites an encounter with a new world. The leafless tree suggests a life well lived. We are surrounded by rich memories. I choose to preserve them with paint and brush.

Claudia Fountaine is intrigued by the quirky and the mundane; a snowman in an icy backyard, with skeleton tree branches for arms. The shelves in a garage, overflowing with all manner of strange things. A dog relaxing on the patio in his bright blue e-collar. These are some of the "surroundings" Fountaine has chosen to depict.

"Surroundings" will be at Artists’ Gallery from August 8th through September 1st. The Opening is Saturday, August 10th from 5-7pm.

Please visit the event website for additional information.

And don't forget - along with our featured exhibit, all 16 of our professional artists continuously have their work on exhibit - there is new work here every month. We welcome your visits!

Here & There - the art of Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Michael Schweigart

Here & There
Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Michael Schweigart

Exhibit: - September 7 to October 3
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 9, 4-7 pm

In this exhibit you’ll see the remarkable works of Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Michael Schweigart. Visit Tuscany, the coast of Maine and other special places as the artists take you on a visual voyage.

Claudia Fouse Fountaine has been painting local subjects for years now; the farms, gardens, and animals she's surrounded by in Bucks County. Lately traveling has given her the chance to depict a wider range of images, whether it's the rolling hills of Tuscany, or just a Manhattan Street scene. Either way, ultimately it's the vibrant light and energy Fountaine brings to her work that draw you in, whatever the subject.

Michael Schweigart can find inspiration just about anywhere he goes and relishes taking the road less traveled whenever possible with a focus on what characterizes a region. Like many he has a deep appreciation for nature. It provides a constant source of ideas to explore. Scenes of coastal Maine and parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey make up the bulk of his work. Schweigart’s studio work is often a composite of memory, plein air sketches, and photographic images to paint specific places, naturalistically. Much of his work is inspired by trips to Maine, a favorite place to paint.

Apples and Oranges - the art of Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Alan J. Klawans

"Apples and Oranges"
Featuring
Claudia Fouse Fountaine
and
Alan J. Klawans

June 10 - July 4

Alan Klawans and Claudia Fouse Fountaine will be showing their work together at Artists' Gallery, and their images couldn't be more different than apples and oranges. All the artwork was created during Pandemic, and each artist responded quite differently to the situation.

ALAN - "My art is my visualization of the Covid 19 Pandemic from March 2020 to March 2021. It is abstract and I have used some of the same shapes over and over again within the various compositions to indicate that the virus was present for many months---and still is. The medium for my pictures is inkjet printing and I have varied the color to indicate my moods during the various months of the cycle that I have chosen to portray."

CLAUDIA - "My art is basically a celebration, of light, of color...of Life, really. As the Pandemic wore on I felt less and less like celebrating anything. At one point I stopped painting altogether, hopefully waiting for a glimmer of joie de vivre' to return. I tried focusing on memories of beautiful places, Nature, animals, and just the objects around me. Eventually I was able to scrape together enough paintings and my old creative enthusiasm began to return. May I continue on that path!"

January 7 - 31, 2021

Artists' Gallery will be showing work by Gail Bracegirdle and Claudia Fouse Fountaine from January 7 to 31 in the exhibition "A Clear Light."

Gail Bracegirdle enjoys working in watercolors because of the environmentally sensitive nature of the medium. She likes to experiment with various textures and types of watercolor papers and pigments to create specific effects. The subjects vary, depending on each day’s distractions.

Claudia Fouse Fountaine is an award-winning Bucks County artist known for her colorful depictions of animals, interiors, and local landscapes. This show features all new work from her, done during the pandemic. Smaller in scale than usual, these paintings reflect a somewhat distilled vision, or a "clearer light."

Images and Imaginings - the art of Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Alan J. Klawans

"Images and Imaginings"

Paintings by Claudia Fouse Fountaine
Digital art by Alan J. Klawans

August 10 - September 3, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday August 12, 3-6 pm

Claudia Fouse Fountaine is an award winning local artist. Along with a BFA and an MFA, she has experience as a museum docent, and an art teacher. She's shown her work in galleries in San Francisco, New York, Brooklyn and New Hope, before becoming a member of Artists' Gallery in Lambertville. This will be her second two person show there. Whereas previously her colorful acrylic paintings depicted mostly bucolic scenes flowers and farms, in her new work Claudia seems to be exploring more personal subjects, and painting with a bit more of an expressionistic touch.

Alan J. Klawans has enjoyed an accomplished career as a graphic designer and printmaker. He has always been interested in the structure of things. For example: buildings, ships, machinery, utility towers and industrial structures. In this exhibition he has observed the structure of flowers and plants. His previous work has been exhibited widely, including the Whitney Museum, New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia.

Visit the event website for more information about this show.

And don't forget - while we feature 2 artists each month,
all 16 Artists' Gallery artists have work on display,

Feels Like Home - Claudia Fouse Fountaine and Debbie Pisacreta

"Feels Like Home"
Claudia Fouse Fountaine
and Debbie Pisacreta

June 9 - July 4, 2016
Opening Reception: Saturday June 11, 4-8 pm

"Feels Like Home" is the perfect title for the June exhibition on view at Artists' Gallery this month. The two artists whose work is on display here not only live close by, but also choose as their subject the beautiful surroundings with which they are blessed.

We see the pastel light and shadow in the Victorian neighborhoods of Lambertville, as well as fields of lavender and local farms in Debbie Pisacreta's tender landscapes.

"I am in love with my town", she says. "I am drawn to a scene not only by the qualities of light and color it has, but also by the quiet feeling it inspires in me".

Claudia Fouse Fountaine's work gives us a glimpse of intimate interiors, as well as animals and farmland in nearby Bucks County.

"My paintings tend to be colorful and lively, with rarely a straight line", says Fountaine. "They are full of energy. Even the inanimate objects seem to be alive".

Both artists have exhibited extensively and won awards locally. This show will be up from June 9th to July 4th, with the Opening Reception being held Saturday, June 11th, 4 - 8pm.

"Feels Like Home" is a delightful interpretation of the bountiful beauty of our area as seen through the eyes of two artists who know it well.
