"Observations"
Featuring
Joseph DeFay
and
Alan J. Klawans
December 10, 2020 - January 3, 2021
Joseph DeFay's photographs pull out the simpler aspects of everyday
life so they can be seen with a renewed beauty and an exciting new
perspective. Shooting subjects up close gives the opportunity to see
detail that one would not ordinarily notice. Joe's larger than life
images compel the viewer to linger, and to share the same vision that he
has from behind the lens.
Many years ago, an art teacher told Alan Klawans to always look up, beyond the second story of buildings, because that's where all the interesting architectural detail was. Alan has always followed that advice, but in recent years he's become very interested in the surfaces and symbols of the street itself. The traffic control lines, directional arrows, crosswalk patterns, utility covers, and the material that the street is made of has become a source of inspiration for his artwork. Alan uses his camera and computer to interpret these surfaces and symbols, and present the viewer with interesting, contemporary images to contemplate.
