Artists Gallery Presents Check to Kalmia Club

November show: Journeys in Color

The power of color is clearly demonstrated at Artists' Gallery where two regional artists, Sheila Letven and Florence Moonan are showing their expressive art from November 9 through December 2, 2007. The public is invited to meet the artists at an opening reception on Saturday, November 10, 6 - 9 p.m.

Both award-winning painters share a mutual interest in the process of exploring color and texture as a means of personal expression.

"Starburst"

Multimedia artist Letven is showing oils on canvas along with small circus and box constructions. Her subjects have appeared and reappeared constantly throughout her work. Natural forms, wild animals, circus figures, and landscapes with intertwining plants have been entry points, but the start is not particularly the direction a painting will go; it often surprises her and takes a different route. For Letven, painting is like a journey into color and dreams, where one is alternately a participant as well as a spectator.

“Starting out with each new canvas and ending up with an unexpected surprise is exactly what the journey is all about,” she explained.

Moonan’s works add another dimension to the Xing Series a body of work painted in her earthy and emblematic abstract expressionist style.

“I was looking for inspiration when I pulled out the torn and tattered Italian grammar book my mother gave me when I was a young girl,” she said. The book, written in the early 20th century, contained a chapter with examples of common and useful Italian and English letters. Moonan adds, “Of particular interest to me were the love letters flavored with archaic expressions which reminded me of little operas.”

This tactile connection to her past made an immediate impact on the direction of her work. The painting’s two dramatic central panels are set between harmonious panels on either side like theater curtains or book covers.

Joe Kazimierczyk - Views Of The Valley

Joe Kazimierczyk is having a solo show at Triumph Brewing Company in New Hope entitled "Views Of The Valley", from Nov 6 through Dec 17, 2007.

Opening Reception:
Wednesday Nov 7, 5:30 - 7:00 pm.

The show will feature about 35 of Mr Kazimierczyk's landscapes paintings of the local area, centered around Amwell and Hopewell Valleys.

The exhibit is organized and sponsored by New Hope Arts, Inc. and was arranged as a compliment to their "Works In Wood" national juried exhibition taking place across the street at The Center.

The Society of Animal Artists returns to The Wildlife Experience along with a premier event: the First Annual Society of Animal Artists' Small Works Exhibition and Sale, entitled Small Works, Big Impressions. The Wildlife Experience has hosted the SAA's prestigious annual touring exhibition, Art and the Animal, on several occasions since opening in 2002. This year, we will be hosting the new Society of Animal Artists Small Works Exhibition and Sale during the holiday season. This show gives visitors and collectors alike to view and purchase works of art from members of the Society of Animal Artists. The quality will be comparable to that displayed in the Art and the Animal exhibition, yet all works will be on a much smaller scale. Seasoned collectors and new collectors alike will have the opportunity to purchase works by their favorite artists at reasonable prices. A substantial percentage of the proceeds from this sale will benefit the work and missions of The Wildlife Experience and the Society of Animal Artists.

Treichler recieves Honorable Mention at PHOTOgraphy 2007

John Treichler has received an Honorable Mention award for his photograph "Red Bull and Vodka" and has had two other photographs accepted into the Philadelphia Sketch Club PHOTOgraphy 2007 Exhibition. The exhibit runs from October 12 through October 28, 2007. The Juror for the exhibition is Kate Moran, an accomplished photographer who is also on the graduate faculty of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Founded in 1860, the Philadelphia Sketch Club is America’s oldest artists club. Exhibits and interest in fine art photography have existed at the Sketch Club from its earliest days. One of its founders, John L. Gihon, pursued photography as an art form as did other notable members to include Thomas Eakins, George B. Wood, William Shewell Ellis and Richard Dooner. Lectures at the Club’s monthly meeting have also focused on photography with the most notable being by Professor Eadweard Muybridge who did experimental photography of action subjects.

The Hidden Gardens Revealed

Back on June 9, Artists' Gallery members joined the annual Hidden Gardens of Lambertville tour by setting up and painting in the gardens during the tour. The artists "added a wonderful compliment to our event” said Fran Bardusco, Garden tour chairwoman, “and now these beautiful paintings are going to be offered for sale with half of the proceeds being donated to the Kalmia Club to help benefit the club's community efforts."

The exhibition and sale is for one week only starting Saturday, October 20th and ending Sunday, October 28th at the Artists' Gallery located at 32 Coryell St., Lambertville. The Gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The opening reception for Kalmia Club's "Hidden Gardens" Revealed is on Saturday, October 20th from 4:00 to 7:00.

The Kalmia Club, headquartered at 39 York Street, Lambertville, is the oldest continuously running women's club in the state of New Jersey. A member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs, the largest volunteer women's service organization in the state and a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, it provides opportunities for education, leadership training and community service through participation in local clubs, enabling members to make a difference in the lives of others.

Joe Kazimierczyk has 3 paintings juried into the show "The Road Not Taken", organized by the D&R Greenway Land Trust. The show runs Oct 15, 2007 through Jan 11, 2008. Opening reception is Thursday, Nov 8, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Works will be exhibited in the Marie L. Matthews Gallery at the Johnson Education Center, located at One Preservation Place, off Rosedale Road in Princeton. Chosen works will highlight pathways into nature, especially trails and landscapes that are either preserved or not yet “taken” by development - a subject Joe paints often. The scene pictured here was done at Otto's Farm Park in Hillsborough Twp, NJ.
