at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

Opening reception: Saturday, Aug 8 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Watercolorist Gail Bracegirdle of Bensalem, PA, is celebrated for her glorious color and luscious brushstrokes. She is also a sought-after and inspiring watercolor teacher. Princeton, NJ, artist Jennifer Cadoff is known for striking black and white drawings. Both artists are frequently selected for juried shows in the tri-state area, and have received awards for their work in regional and national exhibitions.

"Opening"
by Gail Bracegirdle

Bracegirdle is drawn to light, color and shadow in the natural world. For this show, she explored preserved land, farms and gardens in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to find the perfect venues for her plein air paintings. The addition of a soft Chinese brush to her repertoire has resulted in landscapes that are looser, bolder and more contemplative than ever. You can feel her watercolors dance and flow across the paper, even after the paint has dried.

"That's Life"
by Jennifer Cadoff

Cadoff’s eye is narrower, quirkier: A bit of discarded ribbon was the impetus for one series of large drawings in the show. Variations on the theme of patterned ribbons wending their way across dark, textured backgrounds is both emotionally resonant and whimsical. In another series of small drawings, a bright-eyed cat stretches and twists in shapes that echo the meandering ribbons, while clearly trying to coax a smile from the viewer as well.
