New Member: James Pryor

This month, Artists' Gallery welcomes our newest addition to the gallery, James Pryor:

James’ style and images combine into subtle emotions that engage the viewer. He has always believed that one should put to print what stimulates. Combining his custom adapted flex body camera along with his unique printing methods, he has established a creative dreamlike “other-world” through select focus with textural dimension.

Having studied psychology, philosophy and a little theology, James’ visual environment is one of awakening. His images explore reactions to strength, weakness, assertion, submission and the beauty that surrounds.

You can read more about James Pryor and see more of his work on his Artists' Gallery web page.   Better yet, come see James' work in person at the gallery!

Colors Along The Way: Rich Harrington and Carol Sanzalone

"Colors Along The Way"
featuring Richard Harrington
and Carol Sanzalone

March 6 - April 6, 2014
Opening reception: Saturday, March 8, 4-8pm

Artists Carol Sanzalone and Richard Harrington, are pleased to announce the opening of their joint show, "Colors Along The Way", on Thursday, March 6th, at the Artists' Gallery, 18 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ. The exhibit, which runs through April 6th, features watercolor, acrylic, gouache and oil paintings by the two artists, who are influenced by the same elements but express them differently on canvas and paper. A reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, March 8th, from 4 to 8 pm.

"Colors Along the Way" refers to the common element that Sanzalone and Harrington share in their respective works; it is how they use them and the subject matter they choose, that creates a surprising parallel between their artistic sensibilities.

Carol Sanzalone
"West Amwell Woods"

Both artists draw from every day images around them that inspire and inform their work. Carol Sanzalone is often inspired by the natural world around her. "I love the graphic qualities of darkness and light and the impact of color" Sanzalone said. "It is so rewarding to capture a visual surprise, which I can share with the viewer in my painting."

Rich Harrington
"Nicholson, PA"

Richard Harrington, from Newtown PA, finds his inspiration for his work in the objects and buildings in urban and semi-rural areas of Philadelphia and Bucks County and shares the impact of color and light on his work. "I always find myself attracted to painting orange brick buildings against a blue sky, or a red farm tractor in a green field. I love it when the warm colors of spring are blossoming against the left over earth tones of late winter, or when the leaves of trees turn bright orange and yellow against a crisp blue autumn sky".

Two very different artists, with very different methods and very different subjects come together to exhibit work inspired by the same element: The "Colors Along The Way".

Lyrical - a Group Show at Artists' Gallery

"Lyrical"
an Artists' Gallery Group Show

February 6 to March 2, 2014
Opening reception: Saturday, Feb 8, 4-7pm

Artists' Gallery is pleased to announce their second annual production of "Lyrical" a very special group show featuring artwork by the gallery's 18 member artists. The show is a celebration of poetry and song through fine art.

For this show, each of the gallery's artists will offer pieces accompanied by the phrase, line, or verse of inspiration they received from a poem or song. A reception with the artists, free and open to all, will be held at the gallery from 4 - 7 pm on Saturday, February 8.

In the Artists' Gallery's first presentation of Lyrical last year, the goal of the show was to express our recognition of the importance of song and poetry as a potential source of inspiration. The show proved so popular with visitors that we decided to make it a regular event on the gallery's calendar.

The artists of Artists' Gallery include José Anico, Beatrice Bork, Gail Bracegirdle, Jennifer Cadoff, Paul Grecian, Richard Harrington, Charlie Katzenbach, Joe Kazimierczyk, Norine Kevolic, Alan Klawans, Patricia Lange, Alla Podolsky, Eric Rhinehart, Carol Sanzalone, Doug Sardo, Michael Schweigart, Charles David Viera, and Andrew Werth. Artists' Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 11am-6pm, or by private appointment.

We hope you can join us for the reception on February 8!

Note: If the reception must be rescheduled due to inclement weather, we'll post a notice here, and on lambertvillearts.com with the new date and time.

2013 in Review

Here's a look back at Artists' Gallery's 2013 show schedule:

"The 18 Artists of Artists' Gallery" was our December 2012 / January 2013 show, featuring the talent of all 18 gallery artists.

February was "Lyrical", a group show celebrating poetry and song through fine art.  Each piece of artwork in the show was accompanied by a quotation from song or poetry which inspired the work.  We will be doing a similar show this February.

Our 2013 series of 2-person shows began with Norine Kevolic and Paul Grecian in "Breathing the Same Air" - an expression of the importance of the land and nature through fine art.

April brought us "Patterns of Life" featuring the sculptural ceramic creations of Patricia Lange and the watermedia paintings by Carol Sanzalone.

Pat Lange
"Labyrinth"

Carol Sanzalone
"The Color Underneath"

Doesn't everyone love a diner? Maybe not, but when photographer John Treichler and painter Rich Harrington team up for an exhibition of works with the classic American diner as the subject matter, the results are as tasty as the Blue Plate Special with a side of cheese fries.  Our May show was "EAT" featuring paintings by Rich Harrington and photography by John Treichler.

June brought us Doug Sardo and Joe Kazimierczyk in "Sunshine & Joy", an exhibition capturing the sense of joy found in the sunlit places of this region.

"Artists are storytellers. And colors are our words." Those are the words of painter Alla Podolsky. She and Charlie Katzenbach teamed up in July for "True Colors".

The sea, animal life and vivid colors set the narrative for "Stories" featuring the work of Eric Rhinehart and Charles David Viera in the month of August.

September brought us "Concepts + Realizations", featuring the work of Alan J. Klawans and Andrew Werth.   Both artists conceive their artwork through the lens of abstraction and they will be teaming up again for a 2014 show.

October's show featured Beatrice Bork and Jennifer Cadoff in "Points of Origin".

Our 2013 series of 2-person shows concluded with "Outside / Inside" featuring Gail Bracegirdle and Mike Schweigart.

2013 concluded with the group show "AG 18/18/18", in celebration of the gallery's 18th year of operation, our 18 artists, and our location at 18 Bridge St.

This show is currently running and will be up until February 2, 2014.

Happy New Year, everyone, and thanks to all of our friends, patrons and collectors for your continuing support.  We hope you have a fantastic 2014!

The holiday group show brings together work from all 18 artists into the gallery's featured exhibition room. This annual event is the opportunity for us to display the full diversity of our artistic styles in one space. It always comes together well and makes for an exciting exhibition that we hope you'll enjoy!

Here are a few of the pieces that will be on display:
