2009 Designer House and Gardens - Gallery Cafe

Just a reminder that the Artists' Gallery featured in the Gallery Café at the 2009 Bucks County Designer House and Gardens tour is running now through May 31.

The Designer House Tour is on a 20-acre estate in Solebury, PA. featuring an 1850s Victorian home, 1960s stone-and-stucco farmhouse, gingerbread cottage, guest house, carriage shed, greenhouse, three-story stone barn - decorated by more than 50 interior designers and landscapers. The Artists' Gallery had the pleasure of transforming the estate's garage into an art gallery for our work. Here we are, hard at work - artists can do more than just paint:

Here is the finished room, complete with café and dining tables where you can rest and enjoy our artwork:

Tickets for the event are still available at Artists’ Gallery during our normal business hours: Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Ellarslie Open XXVII and The Salon at Artworks

The annual Ellarslie Open is currently under way at the Trenton City Museum. As usual, the Artists' Gallery is pretty well represented and accepted into Ellarslie Open XXVII were Jennifer Cadoff, Patricia Lange, and Andrew Werth. Jennifer Cadoff won a Runner Up Award in the Drawing category, Andrew Werth won Honorable Mention in Digital Photography.

For the past 2 years, museum director Brian O. Hill has struggled with the problem of not having enough space to show all of the work he would like to show. This year Ellarslie is partnering with Artworks to present "The Salon Show" - a show of entries that didn't make it into the Ellarslie Open but are too good not to exhibit. Accepted into the Salon Show were Gail Bracegirdle and Joe Kazimierczyk.

The opening receptions for both shows have already happened, but Ellarslie Open XXVII runs until June 14 and The Salon at Artworks runs until June 27. Visit the Ellarslie and Artworks websites for directions, and more information.

Artists Gallery at Pinot to Picasso 2009

Artists' Gallery is well represented at this year's Pinot to Picasso - the Arts Council of Princeton's annual art and wine tasting fund raiser. This gala kick-off to the Princeton Arts Weekend and Communiversity Festival of the Arts has been described as "the liveliest and hippest art related event in Princeton" - so how can you miss that?!

The event takes place on Friday evening, April 24 and includes an exciting selection of foods donated by select local restaurants, and a tasting of wines from around the world. Also included are a wine-related Silent Auction, and a “Wine Grab.” But the highlight of the evening is the Art Tombola, a raffle of approximately 80 works of art contributed by a select group of local artists. Below are the works donated by Artists' Gallery members:

"Winterscape"

"Ripe"
by Materese Roche

"MHM 3905"

Prisms of Perception

Charles Katzenbach and Materese Roche
exhibit "Prisms of Perception"

at Artists' Gallery

oil on canvas
by Materese Roche

The first show of the Artists’ Gallery’s season features two artists working on separate planes, with different visions who are bound by parallels in techniques and the ability to draw the viewer into their work. The Charles Katzenbach and Materese Roche show “Prisms of Perception” opens Friday, April 10th, and the artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The exhibit runs through May 3rd, 2009.

oil on glass
by Charles Katzenbach

For Katzenbach and Roche, visual depth and interest is achieved through the use of multiple layers of shifting light and colors, lending atmosphere and movement to their work.

Katzenbach creates abstract paintings with oil on the surfaces of glass or mirrors, often using multiple panes to increase the depth and complexity of the image. Colors and shapes shift as one moves around the work, literally playing with the viewer’s perceptions. His work has been referred to as “a legal high with paint, color and light as stimulus”.

Roche paints in a contemporary representational manner, but like Katzenbach, she is fascinated with the play of natural light and atmosphere and how opposing forces in a painting can create a sensation of vibration or tranquility, depending upon the subject. For Roche, the driving force is to pull you into the subject and create within you a specific feeling – from the cool morning air and shimmering light in Northern Maine to the sensation of mist at it flows through a grove of bamboo.

Please note that because it's Easter weekend, the opening is not being held on Second Saturday. Instead, the opening reception for this show will be on Saturday April 18th from 6 to 9:00 pm.
