Do artists really see the world differently, or do they just need to express themselves in different ways? Artists' Gallery's June two-person show featuring the works of painter Gail Bracegirdle and fine art photographer Paul Grecian will deal with how artists "see" their subjects.

For Gail Bracegirdle, the most important inspiration for her artwork is "looking at the subject and being able to study it carefully." Each of her paintings -- whether a floral, garden scene, landscape or still life -- is approached in a similar way. "I always aim for accuracy, but composition is also very important," Bracegirdle informs. "Even my abstract paintings begin by focusing on a small fragment of a subject that has caught my attention." She also adds, "I always find painting like this a rather meditative process."

It is the careful study of their subjects and the meditative approach to their work which ties the art of Bracegirdle and Grecian together in this show.

"Observation is the first step in the creative process," asserts Paul Grecian who has been a gallery member since 2009. Grecian continues "I have always been drawn to details and inspired by nature." An interest in nature led Grecian to a degree in Psycho-biology and a career in industry. But 12 years ago that same interest led to a career change to the arts. In this group of works for sale are selected pieces that reflect individual moments, impressions and inspirations. "They are tied together in that way," Grecian says, "rather than by their subject matter or content."

New Jersey artist Michael Schweigart and Pennsylvania fine art photographer Paul Grecian are joining together at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ to express a mutual appreciation for the coastal Maine landscape including Acadia National Park.

Schweigart and Grecian will be offering original paintings and photography that reflect the quiet and beauty which they experience in the landscape and wilderness of this unique part of the country. A reception with the artists, free and open to all, will be held at the gallery from 4 pm – 7 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014

For Schweigart, this show is about "Memories of trips up and down the coast, everything from wooded rocky shores, marshy coves, and small seaports." His most recent work conveys unique scenes of Maine's "Down East" coastal areas. Schweigart's acrylic works on paper are carefully layered to develop depth, visual texture, and richness of color.

"Maine has been the muse for some of our greatest artists, and it's no wonder," asserts Grecian, "The diversity of light and landscape is a never-ending source for creativity." Grecian continues, "I have experienced feelings of both awe and serenity while in Acadia National Park." "Working in my medium of photography from before sunrise until the star-filled sky of night, I find it all very exciting."

Artists' Gallery is pleased to announce a new two-person show entitled "Breathing the Same Air", featuring works by artists Norine Kevolic and Paul Grecian. The show is an expression of the importance of the land and nature through fine art.

For this show, both Kevolic and Grecian will offer pieces that speak to their personal relationship with landscapes as a whole and with the details within. In Kevolic's paintings and Grecian's photographs, the viewer will experience the spirit and various moods of nature.

"These streets have so much to tell us about the past and present, if we would only take the time to stop and look, or travel down them and see what lies at the other end."

Grecian, who favors the natural world over the man-made, is more likely to be captivated by a hiking trail, a dune path, or a creek bed. "My goal" says Grecian, "is to instill in viewers of my photographs the sense they are walking outdoors and to allow them to engage mentally in exploring nature".

"The question is not what you look at, but what you see."

Henry David Thoreau wrote that in his famous journal 160 years ago this month. Artists Paul Grecian and Materese Roche honor the spirit of Thoreau's vision with their own interpretation in their new joint show, "A Sense of Place". The collection of new landscapes, skyscapes and waterscapes debuts Friday, August 5, and will be on display through Monday, September 5 at the Artists' Gallery. Grecian, a photographer and Roche, who works in oils, will host an opening reception Saturday, August 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gallery. During the reception, they will reveal the results of a collaborative project, designed for this show.

Grecian and Roche will each create a work based on one pre-determined image. The artists have selected one 'neutral' image which they will individually interpret, in their respective mediums. They will translate the scene, bringing to it their individual emotional responses, creativity and vision. It's a logical extension of Grecian and Roche's shared aesthetic and a reflection of Thoreau's quote.

Both artists have had the experience of people connecting to their work as specific places they know and have a deep emotional response to. "However" says Grecian "those are often not the places we've depicted, I believe this suggests we have managed to tap into some universal experience of the landscape".

Materese's and Paul's work transcends paint and paper, surface and image, as well as the specifics of time and place. It connects you to the essence and universality of the natural world. See it in person and there's no denying its power.

Celebrate something wild this May at the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ. The two-person exhibit, Wild Together, features the award winning nature art of Beatrice Bork and Paul Grecian. Expressing a great appreciation for nature and the outdoors, Bork and Grecian share their visions through their chosen artistic mediums. Beatrice Bork's watercolors are inspired by her passion and keen observation of the animal world, while Paul Grecian's artistic photographs are informed by his education in animal behavior and ecology.

Paul Grecian - Best In Photography

Artists' Gallery's newest member Paul Grecian received the Best Photography Award at the 2009 Galaxy Art Show and Sale. The show which is to benefit the Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) has become a staple art event in Bucks County, PA. Grecian’s winning image entitled Downward Facing Dog is of a Great Blue Heron stretching on a log in the middle of a lake.  "It’s not just the posture of the bird that excited me" say’s Grecian, "but the symmetry I was able to create with the bird’s reflection".

The blue ribbon and cash award represent Grecian’s second time receiving the top prize, the first time was in 1999.
