Fine artists Debbie Pisacreta and Maxine Shore will exhibit paintings expressing their personal visions in this show.

"The title of this show, Dreaming in Color, expresses my remembrance of things past." says Shore. "My visions of places or events I have experienced, seen through my mind's eye, are conveyed in the vivid colors that I love to use in my work. Areas of New York city, scenes of my travels through Europe and the US, recollections of places Ihave lived come rushing back to me when selecting the subjects of my paintings. I am grateful that I have had a chance to capture these memories and hope you will enjoy exploring them through my paintings."

Pisacreta says "I have always had an emotional response to color. When painting on location I am fascinated by the subtle shifts in color and how the colors change in different lighting conditions and in relationship to other colors in the scene. My paintings are my attempt at creating a visual language that expresses the colors, shapes and emotions I feel while observing a specific location."

Fine artists Maxine Shore and Bill Jersey will exhibit oil paintings expressing their personal visions of landscape that go above and beyond the natural world.

Maxine Shore is an award-winning artist who has exhibited her work throughout the USA and is included in many private, public and corporate collections. She is a contemporary colorist who uses color and light in an effort to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Inspiration for her paintings often comes from travel to places near and far that spark her imagination. Working exclusively in oils, she relies on watercolor or pencil sketches as well as her camera to record images that she works on in her studio. Such was the case with the painting, Cinque Terre, which depicted a town in Italy she visited recently. A photograph of the painting was featured in the New York Times.

Shore is more interested in interpreting how a place makes her feel than simply reproducing how it looks. "In my art nature provides a springboard for the color and light I envision in my imagination. Reflections of light on water, the way a breeze animates a scene, the filtering of light through leaves - these natural phenomena illustrate what I enjoy exploring in my paintings. Painting has given me tremendous pleasure and I am delighted that my work conveys that spirit of joy to others."

Bill Jersey's route to success as a painter was very different than for most artists. As a child, art became his escape from the constraints of a fundamentalist upbringing. A short stint in the US Navy gave Bill a chance to attend a Christian college as an art major. But in a strange twist of fate the religious film company that hired him was contracted to make its first commercial feature. It became the iconic horror film, "The Blob" on which Jersey was the Art Director.

But documentaries, not features, became Jersey's career. For 60 years he produced award winning films for networks and PBS, but art was always his passion. When Bill and his wife moved to Lambertville in 2008, art became his primary focus. In painting - as with film - Jersey seeks to go beyond mere observation, working to express with color and form the unique qualities of an historic barn or clouds or the spirit of a night sky, all from the view of a fresh eye.

Put the work of Bill Jersey and Maxine Shore in the same room and what do you get? Blazing color - superb compositions - and a delightful irrepressible experience of - you guessed it - "JERSEY SHORE" - it's their world as they see it.

For over 60 years, Bill Jersey has gained honors as a pre-eminent maker of television documentaries. His major awards include two Peabodys, two national Emmys, two academy award nominations and a gold medal for Lifetime achievement in the Arts from the national Arts club in New York city. Since moving to Lambertville his major focus has been on his oil paintings. Multiple awards have come to him from Phillips Mill, Artsbridge, New Hope Arts and other curated venues.

Oil painter Maxine Shore, whose work can be found in many personal and institutional collections, has exhibited her work throughout the United States. She strives to create work that is suffused with color and light in an effort to capture the memory of a special place in a particular time. Her goal is to encourage viewers to reevaluate how they perceive nature. This is summed up in the quote from Marcel Proust: "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in seeing with new eyes."

Artists' Gallery is pleased to present "Enchantment," an exhibition featuring the oil paintings of Maxine Shore and the photographs of Joseph DeFay.

Inspiration for my paintings often comes from places near and far that spark my imagination. Because I work exclusively in oils, I usually rely on watercolor or pencil sketches as well as my camera to record images that I work on in my studio. Such was the case with the painting, Cinque Terre, which depicted a town in Italy my husband and I visited last year. A photograph of the painting was featured in the New York Times this past February.

I'm a painter who loves color. Seeing and interpreting the various colors I find in landscapes is what interests and inspires me. Every time I begin a new painting, I challenge myself to see and interpret my subject with a fresh approach. Looking for unexpected colors and movement in a scene is what I strive to capture in my work.

Joseph is a member of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia and the Plastic Club. His work has been exhibited at Penn Medicine Rittenhouse, the Plastic Club, the Art Alliance, Perkins Center for the Arts, Bucks County Audubon Society, and the Hamilton Township Public Library.

My photographs attempt to document a view of the various ways individuals explore their existence through philosophy, religion, or tradition. My current exhibit - New Vrindaban (The Land of Krishna) - includes photos taken in the mid-seventies during a four-day stay at a Hare Krishna farm community in West Virginia. They are being seen together for the first time.

Krishna (meaning Dark or Dark Blue) also known as Govinda (Cow Protector), is one of the most beloved and widely worshipped of all the Hindu Deities. He is the central character of the immensely popular Hindu Scripture called the Bhagavad Gita (Song of God). Today his teachings and exploits are still widely celebrated by Hindus around the world.

Artists' Gallery is pleased to present "Radiance," an exhibition featuring the oil paintings of Maxine Shore and the photographs of Joseph DeFay.

Maxine is a contemporary colorist who uses color and light in an effort to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Her paintings are in many private collections as well as prominent institutions. Formerly a teacher of art, Maxine has studied at various schools in New York and Philadelphia, including The Parsons School of Design, the National Academy and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

"I am not a traditional representational painter. I am more interested in how a place makes me feel than simply reproducing how it looks. Even when a painting is representational there exits an abstract dynamic below the surface. Exploring the interplay of shapes, patterns of lights and darks, and composition all contribute to the final outcome.

Joseph's photographs tend to pull out the simpler aspects of everyday life so they can be seen with a renewed beauty, and an exciting new perspective. "A completely open mind, favoring no particular philosophy, allows me to fully accept what each raw opportunity to create provides, and decide if it is to be refined and shared. Traditional artistic concerns prove an interesting challenge when capturing people, places, or objects in the moment, but are always held in high regard".

This month, Artists' Gallery welcomes Maxine Shore as our newest member.

I am a colorist and a luminist. Using color and light, I hope to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. I am inspired to paint scenes familiar and unfamiliar because I’m dazzled by their color and light as well as the unique feelings I have from being surrounded by unexpected beauty.

So many moments escape our notice because we are caught up in the ordinariness of daily life. My purpose in painting is to freeze those fleeting scenes and invite you to share them with me. - Maxine Shore
